Benefits of using Google My Business

When it comes to benefits, we want you to let you know about all the pros it can mean for your business. Here are a few:

  • The tool is free to use, requiring no purchase at all.
  • Simple, easy to use that and only takes a few mouse clicks to set up.
  • Easy to manage/alter any information placed within one area.
  • Helps your audience know a little more about your business at a glance.
  • Helps your audience locate your business.
  • Get ratings displayed as feedback to improve your credibility online.
  • The tool allows you to display - email, website, opening time, photos, map and reviews.
  • Focuses on the local nature of business. We're a web design company based in Newcastle, and having a well optimised Google My Business page helps us be found locally for people in need of a new website.
  • It's also important to create a link between Google My Business and your posts on Google+. Take for example, this post about our Google listing. We use it to make the connection between our website, our social media platforms and our Google My Business page.

Potential issues of using Google My Business

There aren't that many drawbacks to using this tool provided by Google. Here are a few issues you could potentially come across, that you need to be aware of:

  • Wrong details entered can prevent your business from showing up when searched.
  • With any changes made, everyone can see them so ensure your details don't contain anything confidential or don't add anything you wouldn't want anyone to see.
  • Getting reviews from your audience is a great thing! However, as well as good reviews you can also get bad ones, which can have an effect on your rating.

How does Google+ play its role?

When placing in your business details within the box provided by Google My Business, the last part of the process it asks whether you have a Google+ account. If you choose no, you would be required to create an account for your business in order to manage the Google My Business Feature.

Also, just to give you a handy hint, Google+ can play a crucial role when it comes to helping with your the search listings and increasing your viewer count on the website.

Similarly, when you interact on other social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, Google+, the same theory applies. It is a place where businesses can interact with each other and their customers. The only difference with Google+ is that with good amounts of interaction with other companies, and by receiving shares/+1 on the page will make an impact on your google listing.

To use or not to use? What are your final thoughts?

Hopefully, this has given you a quick overview of using Google My Business.

Certainly, when it comes down to the benefits and disadvantages, the benefits surely outweigh the negatives. Since it is a free tool, why not give it a go? No harm in testing it out and if you think it’s not working for you, you can simply just remove it.

As it is free, this feature can work wonders for your business for its online presence. I’m sure you’ll agree that when searching for a company, we tend to look where it is based, and 9 times out of 10, we’ll check out the box on the right before we even click on the company website. Google have been very clever in their design of these search results, making the visitor focus on these companies areas before the user looks at the search results.

Think along the lines of how you would search for other businesses for professional services or shopping - and then provide the information you feel would help a user if they searched for your business.
